Kino Bay

This is a small fishing village due west of Hermosillo. It has not been a major tourist destination since the infrastructure is lacking. Neve the less, there is a good size retired US population living there in the various RV parks. The beach front is developed with some pretty sporty beach villas, nothing like La Jolla, but darn snazzy compared to my neighborhood.

There is a major development going in at the end of Kino Nuevo over the hill, 300 lots or so. They have the streets in as well as utilities and are putting up model homes. This could bring change to this small town, I wonder how the housing slump will impact this?

Things to know

1) Money. Make sure you have all that you are going to need before getting to Kino, the town does not have a bank nor an ATM. They take dollars but you will be subjected to the on the fly conversions that most definitely do not end up in your favor. The big town in between Hermosillo and Kino is the last place that you will find a bank. I forget the name but the locals call it Calle Doces, Miguel comes to mind.

2) The parks are pretty small and the hook-ups suck. Electric is 30amp, your sewer is a pipe in the ground, and water pressure is terrible. The water is good (it won't kill you but has a lot of minerals being close to the ocean and does not taste all that great), but you need to fill your tanks and run off your rv pump to get the pressure.

3) Its a small town, night life is limited, but then that is why a lot of folks go there, it's quiet. Recreation is the beach and fishing do not expect much else.

4) The beach is nice but there are a lot of sting rays. Snorkeling was mediocre, there is just not a lot swimming around on a sany bottom. The big rocks at the end of the beach did have some fish and the rays were cool, but this is nothing like top destinations.

5) I hear the corvina fishing is excellent, I did not go. Since this is a fishing village, there is a fish market row where the fisherman dock their boats, clean their fish and will sell it to you. Since it is right from the source, the prices are great and the fish is fresh.
